How We can help

Problem Behavior Reduction
  • DBT behavior intervention plans are designed and structured to identify the underlying reason why a certain behavior is occurring and introduce strategies to target the reduction of that behavior.
Language and Functional Communication Training
  • All behavior is a form of communication. However, Functional Communication Training, or FCT, aims to replace disruptive or unconventional behavior with more appropriate forms of communication.

Meet The DBT CEO & Founder, Dr. Cho

Dr. Grace Cho is the Founder and CEO of Dr. Cho Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Inc. Dr. Cho received her Ph.D. from UCLA in Special Education with an emphasis on Autism. She founded ABT in April 2015, in order to help children with autism, develop independent lives, improving their social and functional communication skills, so that they can interact effectively with their peers and adults. Prior to this, she worked as BCBA-D for Alexandria City Public Schools. She supervised classroom teachers of children with autism, training them in ABA intervention techniques, to improve these children’s behavior and performance at their schools. Dr. Cho is also an Adjunct Professor at GMU, George Mason University, where she teaches graduate students in ABA. In 2006, Dr. Cho established a board-approved ABA graduate program at NSU, Nam Seoul University in Korea, the first program of its kind in Asia. She served at NSU as Chief Professor of the graduate ABA department, teaching graduate students and supervising other professors. She was also the Director of the Behavioral Therapy Clinic at NSU.

Client Testimonials

After having tried 4 ABA companies in Northern Virginia for my child I was lucky enough to find Dr. Cho Behavioral Therapy. My son is a challenging case because he is in the midst of puberty, autism, PANDAS/PANS, and Lyme disease. My son has transformed during our time at DBT and so has our home and family. He has gone from the most severe, aggressive, and destructive behaviors to becoming a calm, functional boy that has hope for a much brighter future. He has made progress in greatly reducing his OCD, rituals, aggression, and destruction. He has improved his language, speech, self-help skills, life skills, and compliance. DBT is the most effective, consistent, well-trained, and committed ABA company we have worked with by far. I’m grateful we have hope for a brighter future for our family and child thanks to DBT!

We have been with Dr. Cho’s program since about February of 2018. Now, our son, J S is almost nine years old. At the start of the program, he was not able to attend public school, due to his severe aggressive behavior toward peers and teachers. Now, he is included in general education classrooms for all subjects. He no longer has to be in Special Education. Our child was very aggressive and impulsive and had trouble playing and interacting with his peers. He had very little functional communication skills, as he was almost exclusively scripting. I was hoping he would learn to calm his body down, and regulate/express his emotions so he could have positive interactions with the people in his life. The therapist worked with him on problem behaviors, language deficits, social skills, safety awareness, and independent living skills. Dr. Cho’s program has made a huge difference in our child’s behavior. He started using a few replacement behaviors right away. By this, I mean that he started replacing some of his problem behaviors with appropriate behaviors.

We had tried two different companies prior to finding DBT. Once we were with DBT, they ensured that we had the right clinician for our family and son. Now, he is making lots of visible improvements. They are very professional, truly care, and provide lots of support.

What a fantastic group of people Dr. Cho has assembled! In our family, a diagnosis of autism in our youngest member marked the first time we'd heard about ABA therapy. Simply said, we are eternally grateful to Dr. Cho and her wonderful staff for matching us with such wonderful therapists. My kid has made great progress towards the goals outlined in his individual list education plan (IEP) thanks in large part to the tireless efforts of Dr. Cho and her staff. My family and I have no idea where my son's development would be without this team's help!
